Fossils of the American alligator are unsurprisingly found throughout much of Florida. They are incredibly adaptable and have lived for millions of years with little physical changes. Some typical alligator fossils include osteoderms, the hard boney plates that cover much of their bodies, teeth, jaws, bones, and even fossil alligator poop (scientifically called coprolites).
