Description: Horses originally evolved in North America over 50 million years ago, eventually migrating globally across land bridges. While modern horses have one hoofed toe on each foot, many extinct fossil horses had three toes per foot. They were also smaller than modern horses and their shorter teeth were specialized for browsing on soft leaves, fruits, and shrubs. This fossil horse tooth would make a unique gift for an aspiring scientist!
